It was at Roger’s house he shared with 3 other people we went to high school with. See he is a very old friend. A Nice guy and still is. What you may not know is he was Leon Russell’s guitar player and his audio engineer back then and one of the few guys that could fix a Stevens 40 track tape machine. A rare product back then. I think this was circa 1979? Something like that.

I was with Steve and Jeff Porcaro. Jeff was THE greatest groove drummer of all time in my opinion, and many other peoples as well. We had heard Roger was bragging about a machine that sounds just like real drums, well we HAD to see and hear it. It was a box with alligator clip cables hanging off of it…the soldering iron was still hot, very Flinstones-like at the time. Roger hit the primitive ‘play’ button. We sat in silence.

I remember the look on Jeff Porcaro’s face after the first 4 bars played. We were stunned. I was laughing but then Jeff said something that will stick with me forever: “I am gonna strap this thing on my back and jump in the pool and destroy it before it ruins music and takes all the work away from real drummers.” Of course we all laughed never realizing this would change music as we knew it forever. It did.

Happy holidays
Luke

uh huh..The true map

uh huh..The true map

This is a project that I worked on recently with the talented...

This is a project that I worked on recently with the talented Mark Ballas…HurtLoveBox comes out early next year.

"To miss something is to actively long for it..."

"To miss something is to actively long for it...":

This is a project that I just finished working on and all the proceeds go to a good cause.
Here’s a little bit about Wynn and what he’s doing in Haiti. “Wynn lives and works in Haiti and these days spends most of his time
helping Haitians who are stricken with cholera. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, not how it compares with other expression. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is on a queer, divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others.””

- Martha Graham

work…

work…
